Installing SLIME from a 1 Gallon Container with pump
SLIME have released their latest Blog post where they discuss 5 common myths about their Tire Sealant. So – how does it stack up? Click the link below to read their Blog.
In this post we review their Myths claims and offer some independent advice.
Myth No. 1: Tire sealant is for emergency use only
SLIME can be used as both preventative or for repair. There is generally no problem with having it pre-installed in your tire so it fixes punctures as they occur.

Just pull the thorn out and keep moving!
During our years living in Africa, we had SLIME pre-installed in all our tires – bikes, buggy/stroller and 4WD. We could not walk more than 20 minutes with our buggy without getting a flat tire in this harsh environment. Pre-installing enabled us to run through the countryside with no problem.
One novel use was to pre-install in soccer balls as the balls would get punctured.
The downside of pre-installation occurs mostly in high-speed (70 km/h+) use where a vibration can occur if the amount installed is not precise. We also noticed in about 10 – 15% of vehicles they seemed to get a vibration even if we installed the correct amount – perhaps this was to do with accentuating an existing tire imbalance.
Myth No. 2: Tire sealant is toxic!
SLIME is not dangerous to use and we used it a lot!
It is safe to handle, does not cause a problem if it gets on you – it just washes in water.
We did notice that with extensive use, sometimes it tended to dry out your hands.
Myth No. 3: Tire sealant is hard to clean out of my wheels
No – just clean it out with water!
The only downside here can be the need to dry your surface afterward if you want to then patch the surface.
Myth No. 4: Tire sealant will damage my tire sensor
I can not verify this or not as never had enough experience with this aspect – however we did use it in truck tires with no adverse effects.
Myth No. 5: Tire sealant is not safe for my wheel rims
We never witnessed any damage to rims or wheels – even those car wheels where we had SLIME installed for years.
